MIL-STD-883,It is an approved standard used by all departments and agencies of the Department of Defense.

This standard establishes a set of standard test methods, controls and procedures for testing the environmental, physical and electrical properties of microelectronic devices suitable for use in military and aerospace electronic systems. MIL-STD-883, basic environmental testing to determine resistance to the deleterious effects of natural elements and conditions specific to military and space operations; mechanical and electrical tests; It covers workmanship and training procedures, and any other controls and restrictions deemed necessary to ensure a level of quality and reliability of these devices appropriate to the intended applications.

This standard applies to microelectronic devices and includes such items as monolithic, multi-chip, film and hybrid microcircuits, microcircuit arrays and the elements from which these circuits and arrays are composed. The test methods, controls and procedures specified in the standard are prepared to serve the following purposes:

  1. Determination of Laboratory Conditions:To obtain test results equivalent to actual service conditions in the field and to ensure repeatability of test results by determining the appropriate conditions that can be achieved in the laboratory and at the device level. These tests should not be interpreted as a complete and accurate representation of actual service operation in a particular geographic location or space; because the most accurate test for a particular application and location is the actual service test performed under the same conditions.

  1. Standardization of Test Methods:To define all test methods of similar character in the common services and NASA microelectronic device specifications in a single standard, to ensure that these methods are compatible with each other and thus to protect equipment, workforce and test facilities. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to make each generic test adaptable to a wide range of devices.

  1. Ensuring Interoperability and Quality: To achieve consistent quality and reliability across all devices scanned against this standard by ensuring a level of consistency in physical, electrical and environmental testing, manufacturing controls and workmanship.

MIL-STD-883, It provides standardization of test methods and controls to ensure the reliability and performance of microelectronic devices in military and aerospace applications.
